Prevention of urinary track infection

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES THE FREQUENT URINARY TRACK INFECTION (UTI)?

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that can happen anywhere along the urinary tract – in the bladder, kidneys, ureters or urethra. UTI is caused by bacteria (Candida) that enter the urethra, perhaps reaching the bladder, which can spread to the kidneys. Women tend to get UTI more often because their urethra is shorter and closer to the anus than in men.
Symptoms of UTI include cloudy or bloody urine (with a foul or strong odor), low grade fever, pain or burning sensation during urination, pressure or cramp in the lower abdomen or back, and strong urge to urinate, even right after the bladder has been emptied.
Factors that increase the risk of UTI include
  • lack of fluid intake,
  • holding urine,
  • poor personal hygiene,
  • presence of underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, renal stones and prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate; male only),
  • sexual intercourse (bacteria may enter urethra through vagina and cause infection).
Therefore, people are advised to urinate after sexual intercourse and practice proper personal hygiene. The following products may be helpful in managing UTI or prevent UTI from taking place.
